Students Take Distinguished Delegation Award at Model United Nations Conference

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif. April 13, 2009) The CSUN MUN team won a Distinguished Delegation Award representing Sierra Leone at the National Model United Nations conference in New York this week. That represents a second place finish for the team. The following individuals participated on the team:

Marguerite Sanvictores (Head Delegate)
Romi Said (Head Delegate)
Tiffany Lane
May Sabah
Gabriel Perez
Quang Tran
Nicole Stephens
Taina Vargas
Marcos Sanchez
Eduardo Lagunas
Dadie Loh
Jorge Guerrero

In addition, 15 students not attending the New York conference attended a WestMUN conference in Santa Barbara from April 2-4th. Steve Martinez won a Best Delegate Award representing Burkina Faso in the General Assembly.

All in all, it’s been a really good year for a number of reasons. First, our budget amounted to over $42,000, thanks to the efforts of the students. Second, we added the China conference to the program. This conference should be considered on a par with the New York conference in terms of its demands. We now attend 6 conferences during the academic year. And most importantly, I am beginning to notice that we are attracting really good students to the program because of the reputation.
