(NORTHRIDGE, Calif. April 28, 2009) Geography Professor Dr. Julie Laity has won the 2009 Preeminent Scholarly Publication Award for her recently published book Deserts and Desert Environments. Part of the Wiley-Blackwell Environmental Systems and Global Change Series, the book is an advanced undergraduate/graduate text emphasizing a systems approach to understanding global arid environments, particularly their physical, biologic, temporal, and human components.
Dr. Laity is an expert on deserts, having studied the effects of wind, water, and groundwater on shaping arid environments. She teaches introductory and advanced geography courses in physical geography and weather, geomorphology, hydroclimatology, senior seminar, and graduate courses.
