Anthropology Student Wins First Gelvin Scholarship

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., November 16,, 2009) -- Graduating senior Melissa Grazer was the first recipient of the Bruce Gelvin Scholarship for the best student in biological or physical anthropology. She received the award at the Department of Anthropology's year-end party in May 2009. The scholarship was endowed by Emeritus Professor of Anthropology Bruce Gelvin in 2008. He taught in the department from 1972 until his retirement in 2004. Dr. Gelvin specialized in biological anthropology, studying the adaptation of African lowland gorillas. Melissa is now a graduate student in the department's MA program.
