Requirements
Admission Requirements:
- A baccalaureate from an accredited university in sociology, psychology, social work, or another liberal art or behavioral science, or a relevant professional background. Students from other fields may be admitted but they may be required to complete additional liberal arts study.
Course Requirements:
- The Master of Social Work (MSW) requires 60 units of full time graduate work.
- Students complete minimum of 900 hours of supervised field education in local social service agencies.
- In the first year or foundation year, students learn social work generalist practice.
- In the second year or concentration year, students are engaged in advanced practice with urban families through clinical, group and community practice.
Applications for California State University, Northridge’s MSW Program are highly competitive (3 students apply for every 1 space available) and are evaluated on the following five categories:
1. Grade point Average (GPA), minimum of a 3.0;
2. Letters of reference, including at least one that speaks to your academic ability to be successful at the graduate level;
3. A personal statement that address the eight questions of the Autobiographical Statement;
4. Your writing skills, as indicated in your personal statement; and
5. Related Experience.
