Q: Is this an accredited program?
A: The Department of Social Work received national initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) from 2004-2005 to 2012.

Q: How long does the program take to complete?
A: It takes two years to complete the full-time program and three years to complete the part-time program.

Q: Are the classes offered online?
A: The classes are not offered online.

Q: Which classes fulfill the science requirement?
A: There is no longer a science requirement.

Q: Where can I receive counseling for this program?
A: You can contact the Social Work Program office at (818) 677-7630 and ask for counseling.

Q: What core classes are required to qualify?
A: A liberal arts background is recommended, but not required, for the program.

Q: Can I begin the program in the Spring semester?
A: The MSW program begins in the Fall semester only.

Q: Do I have to take the GRE?
A: The GRE is not a requirement for the MSW program, but is a requirement of CSUN if your GPA is under 3.0.

Q: Can I do my field work at the place where I work now?
A: The field work assignments are made by the Director of Field Education.

Q: Will my work in a social environment help me qualify?
A: If you work in a social service agency, this experience will support your application.

Q: What type of field work will I be doing?
A: The field work will vary in agencies dealing with child welfare, mental health, aging/gerontology, homelessness, domestic violence, criminal justice, medical/health, and other fields of practice.

Money Matters

The resident full-time and part-time graduate student tuition and fees are assigned by the Trustees of the California State University.

Additional costs for liability insurance and field education fees will be added to this cost before classes start.
