The department offers a variety of research opportunities, including the extremely popular Natchez Project, which takes a number of students every year to engage in research in the records of the South in Natchez, Mississippi. Faculty have also supervised student research projects at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley and at the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the U. S. Holocaust Research Insitute in Washington, DC, and have led field trips and summer courses to Gettysburg, Normandy, and Prais, for which students have received course credit through the College of Extended Learning.
