UPCOMING EVENTS

.

Thursday, October 7: Our Third Official Meeting of the Year (Whitsett Room 7 - 8:00pm)

Monday October 11: Archives talk and Movie Night featuring Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown.” Join us as we prepare for our ‘Water Wars” tour this coming weekend by watching this Academy Award winning classic. The screenplay is a loosely fictionalized account of the literal battles for land and water rights that stretched across California in the early twentieth century.  The film will be preceded by a presentation of the weekend’s itinerary and a look at the archival collections at CSUN that further explore the history of water in LA. (Whitsett Room 7 – 9:30pm)

Saturday October 16: The Water Wars Tour!

Join us at 10am in front of Sierra Hall as we depart for a full day tour of Southern California’s Water Wars. CSUN Historical Association president Nicholas Bonneau will guide us from the San Fernando Valley through Downtown LA and up to the sight of the St. Francis Dam disaster.  (Departure from the Freudian Slip at Sierra Hall, 10:00am)

Monday, November 8

Planning meeting for trip to Santa Barbara on November 13 and smaller trips to local museums and archives for students who wish to learn more about the handling and presentation of artifacts and documents from the past!  We will also hold elections for next semester’s open officer positions. (Whitsett Room 7 - 8:00pm)

Saturday, November 13 – Santa Barbara Trip:

Join us for a fun day trip to Beautiful Santa Barbara. We’ll tour vineyards, see pre-historic cave painting, and check out the mission.

Monday, November 15: The First Annual CSUN Historical Association Matador Lecture (In Memory of the Bull).

Join us for talks and panel discussions to be focused on this year’s topic: "Naming Names: Questions, Bridges, and Pre-Newtonian Ornithology in 13th Century Kent.” This event will be followed by a screening of a late twentieth century cultural film made by graduates of Oxford and Cambridge Universities that looks at the Arthurian legends and their relationship to these issues. There will be no discussion after the film and there will most certainly not be any type of a holiday party. Please bring coconuts. (Whitsett Room 7 - 10:00pm)

Monday, November 29:

Last Official Meeting of the Semester - Election results and sad farewells. (Whitsett Room 7 - 8:00pm)
