The Geography Council
The Geography Council is an organization whose aims are to stimulate an interest in the field of geography, to foster active communication and cooperation between student groups in institutions of higher learning, and to promote interest in professional organizations.
The council offers students of geography a vehicle to enhance their academic experience by building a broader base of knowledge and understanding through peer and faculty involvement. In a large university, especially one made up of commuters, it is easy to become isolated from like-minded individuals. The council offers an academic and social network.
In addition, we are heartily committed to having fun!
Meetings are held every month, during which members can share and discuss aspects of geography, explore internship and employment opportunities, and meet other interested students. Special lectures (by students, faculty, or others), field trips, films, parties, and campus activities are what we generally plan and organize, but do not keep any ideas to yourself. We welcome all suggestions!
Membership is open to all enrolled students who express an interest in the field of geography, and who maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0. The annual fee for membership is $5.00, which helps support the council's activities.
