The Richard Aronstam Library

Manzanita Hall, 2nd Floor  Rm 240

Welcome to the Richard Aronstam Memorial Library! We are located on the second floor of Manzanita Hall. The Richard Aronstam Library was established in March 2003 through a generous donation to the Department by Mrs. Elsie Aronstam. The Library is dedicated to her and her husband, Richard, who served as a Professor in the Department from 1961 until his death in 1969. This library is run by Communication Studies students and serves as the main resource center for Communication Studies majors. This library offers many books and communication research journals needed for student research. Among the journals that can be found here are:

Africa Media Review

Communication Monographs

Communication Quarterly

Critical Studies in Mass Communication

Journal of Communication

In addition to these renowned journals, the Aronstam Library offers a wide selection of Great Speeches videotapes for student critiques; graduate school information; various books on communication theory, rhetoric, intercultural communication, mass communication, interpersonal communication, and research methods; as well as teachers' resources. The Aronstam library also features computers for student use. These computers contain word processing programs like Microsoft Word and WordPerfect. Additionally, they offer a high speed connection to the Internet and feature e-mail, file transfer, and web browsing capabilities. Xerox and printing services are also available for a nominal cost. Copy cards may be purchased from the Departmental office.

Volunteer Information

Although the Aronstam Library's official business hours are from 8AM through 5PM on Mondays through Fridays, and Saturdays from 10-1PM, the library can only be open for service when a volunteer student monitor is present. The Aronstam Memorial library is always in need of additional volunteer student monitors, and if you are interested in volunteering or need more information, please see Dr. Don Brownlee or contact him at (818) 677-2633. Volunteers must be undergraduate or graduate communication studies majors who are willing to work three to four hours weekly. In return, volunteers will be permitted access to the library at all business hours during the week, even in the absence of a monitor. The Aronstam Library is always in need of your volunteerism, so sign up now! Here is one more item to include on your resume!
