Our Approach
- In our training workshops you will learn the practical tools and techniques of assistive technology accommodations and applications in meeting the needs of individuals with various disabilities in many settings. In addition to the principles of human needs, environment and tasks, we will address the tools and techniques behind the assistive technology which will enhance the effectiveness of your training experience.
- We are not here to test your knowledge; we are here to facilitate a training that will aid in increasing your knowledge in the area of AT applications. ATACP participants are encouraged to use the rich ATACP network to raise questions, suggest solutions and provide resources to assist ATACP peers and those they serve throughout the training workshop.
Out Method of Delivery
- Our training workshops allow you to participate and gain access to new assistive technologies, both online and live, and we encourage you to share with others on your findings.
- Attendance is limited in each live training to ensure maximum participation, feedback and personal attention -- early registration is strongly encouraged but not mandatory.
- We provide access to a comprehensive on-line curriculum with various modules, case studies, application exercises, articles and web resources in a variety of accessible mediums (HTML, Text, and PDF).
- You are given a workbook for "easy-to-follow" class presentations during the live training portion of the ATACP.
- Nationally recognized consultants and trainers facilitate and present the live modules
- Access to an individual class listserv which will enable you to be connected with other class members and AT providers to continue your educational experience even after the training has ended.
Assistive Technology Applications Training
The ATACP meets the 100 hour requirement for a certificate in Assistive Technology Applications with 10 CEUs from California State University, Northridge's College of Extended Learning and the Center on Disabilities.
The course work is delivered by completing a portion of the on-line material before the live training and participating in the live training. The remaining on-line instruction and project will need to be completed within 90 days after the last day of the live training.
- ATACP Standard = 60 hours online + 32 hours live + 8 hours project
- ATACP FastTrax = 76 hours online + 16 hours live + 8 hours project
Customized Assistive Technology Training & Workshops
The Center on Disabilities at CSUN offers "customized training workshops" where training is tailored to address specific training needs. We have conducted workshops in the areas of Augmentative and Alternative Communication/Environmental Communication Teaching, Overview of Assistive Technology, Job Accommodations, Assessment Principles, Assistive Technology for Persons with Learning Disabilities, and Leadership and Technology Management Training.
Customized AT workshops can be made available to your organization or agency, as well as consultation services from our nationally known training staff and consultants. Training workshops can include a semi-customized 100-hour Certificate program to a three day workshop on a specific area of AT to match your needs. A minimum number of 30 participants is required for customized training.
The Center on Disabilities has contracted with businesses, schools, and government agencies to deliver customized workshops or certificate programs. If you have staff in your organization, partner groups or associations you collaborate with, we can present at your location and train them all at one time. Customized training workshops, or even the full 100-hour ATACP program can be delivered to you at a special group rate with a minimum of 30 participants. Please contact us for more information.
