Employer Resources

The shortage of skilled workers for positions requiring a college or graduate degree has become more pronounced. This makes hiring employees with the right skills, and retaining them, quite a challenge in today’s job market.

One way for employers to remedy this situation is to broaden and diversify their search process by hiring people with disabilities. Not only does this allow employers to reduce the expenses associated with recruiting and retaining employees, but it creates a more balanced workplace, reflective of the diversity of the local community.

With this in mind, WorkAbility IV, can help you find qualified candidates who will bring a host of skills to your workplace. WorkAbility IV is a program designed to match employers with college seniors with disabilities and recent college graduates, resulting in a process that is a good fit for all concerned.

Improved Retention

Surveys indicate that after one year of employment, the retention rate for people with disabilities is nearly 85 percent. A high retention rate helps you reduce your hiring cost. (Center for Workforce Preparation)

A Skilled Workforce

People with disabilities have developed good problem-solving skills by having to find creative ways to accomplish tasks others may take for granted.

New Customers

Marketing the fact that your company is a disability-friendly business will attract more job candidates and new customers (Solutions Marketing Group, 2003 )

Little or No Cost

Dispelling the myth that hiring people with disabilities requires expensive alterations of the workplace, a 2003 survey of employers found reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities generally cost less than $500. In fact, 73 percent of the employers reported that their employees did not require accommodations at all. (Dixon, Kruse & Van Horn, 2003)
