Track/Topic: Transportation
Accessible transportation is vital in maintaining independence and mobility for people with disabilities; it plays a major role in helping this important segment of the population enter into and remain in the mainstream of society. A panel of experts from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Amtrak will discuss the rights of people with disabilities when in transport on the ground, by train, in the air, or on water, and the importance of designing a livable and accessible community. This session will also include a discussion of recent DOT rulemaking, enforcement and outreach activities to make our travel system more fully accessible as well as a discussion and a video presentation on evacuating people with disabilities during emergencies. The Panel Discussion is open to the public and will be held on Friday, March 2 in the Elizabeth Ballroom D/E from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.
