The SQ3R study method enables students to actively study textbooks. This method helps student's process, analyze and synthesize information, which in turn leads to a better comprehension and mastery of the material. In this presentation we will demonstrate how high school and college level students are using the SQ3R study method with the WYNN software program.
The intent of this session is to show how using the WYNN software program can facilitate the learning process for the older struggling student. The session will focus on specific examples of how learning-disabled students complete assignments and study for exams using the study tools in WYNN to organize, synthesize and integrate information. We will show how students implement the SQ3R method in WYNN and how this strategy assists students in the comprehension of high school and college level material.
WYNN is a text-to-speech, reading, word processing, and studying program. It provides superior OCR for scanning printed materials and reading of the text through the program's speech synthesis. The speech output is very clear and can be customized. WYNN provides the ability to easily customize the visual presentation of the material to match the users' needs. Other features include a talking dictionary and thesaurus, bookmarking and highlighting, word prediction, and text or voice annotation. After only minimal interaction time with the program students are able to use most of WYNN's many features.
It is a long established fact, supported by research and practice that people learn, comprehend, and retain things better using multiple modalities. This presentation will discuss and show educators several strategies that will empower and enable challenged students in the areas of reading, writing, and studying. Using a bi-modal model, effectively presented with the aid of technology, a variety of study strategies will be demonstrated and case studies discussed in which students have benefited. The strategies will be presented in the curriculum areas of writing, reading, and research.
In summary, this presentation will demonstrate how WYNN allows high school and college students to apply the SQ3R method, to provide success in their curriculum. We will discuss how this type of strategy is essential for mastering textbook assignments. We will demonstrate how WYNN has a simple but very powerful user interface with intuitive and usable features. We will show how WYNN can extend the educators expertise and how this software program can aid the older struggling student.
