Got a student stuck in cause and effect programs? Take the step beyond random selections!

Think outside the box! The IntelliKeys box, that is. Combined with SoftTouch's Steps To Learning model, the IntelliKeys keyboard can become the most versatile access device your students can use. Take the step beyond random selections!
In the field, we have worked with students for years with a single switch. We expected students to go from simply hitting the switch for cause and effect to choice making with single switch scanning. Single switch scanning requires timing skills, extended attention spans and pre-planning. Many have not been able to understand these concepts.

SoftTouch has developed a training module for educators providing students with a step-by-step continuum of learning experiences. Students with the most significant disabilities are learning to make meaningful choices on the computer using the IntelliKeys keyboard and SoftTouch's changeable format. Students move from simply activating the computer to using two switches to step scanning to selection from multiple items and beyond-all with the IntelliKeys keyboard!

In this workshop we want to encourage the educator to think outside the box. To move our students with the most severe disabilities beyond single switch random choices, we are using the IntelliKeys keyboard for a variety of switch or choice making formats. The workshop will provide the participants with small video examples as well as hands on experience for quickly changing overlays without reprinting pictures, keeping data, and making educational decisions.

The participant will go home with a sample CD and a booklet that will provide a road map for taking students from random selections to meaningful choice making using the IntelliKeys keyboard. They will also see some creative adaptations to the keyboard to help the student with the learning process.
