As computer technology changes and improves, screen readers change and improve as well. Window-Eyes has been an innovator in the screen reader industry, being the first to offer accessibility for Adobe PDFs, Citrix and Terminal Services, and Macromedia Flash content.

This presentation will be geared toward both current Window-Eyes users and potential new users. It will showcase existing features, as well as new updates. Since this is a vendor presentation, we will discuss the features and benefits of using the product, as well as provide demonstrations about how the product works and what improvements we have made.

Our latest features include improved support for Microsoft Word, a complete color dictionary, and a "lease-to-own" program.

Window-Eyes can now provide 100% text accuracy in Microsoft Word by accessing the DOM (Document Object Model) instead of the OSM (Off-Screen Model). Window-Eyes can also read forms (including field names and content), tables (without switching to "Table Mode"), and columns in Microsoft Word, as well as all text formatting attributes, such as bold and underline.
Window-Eyes will also read misspelled words, and give the user an option to change them immediately via the contextual menu.

With the complete color dictionary, Window-Eyes no longer reads an RGB formula when it encounters an unnamed color. Instead, it will find the closest color and describe it as a "shade of" that particular color. This will eliminate color descriptions such as "R204, G51, B51," and replace it with "a shade of firebrick red" instead.

The lease-to-own program will allow users to purchase a 30-day evaluation copy and continue to unlock it for eight months, until the full retail price of Window-Eyes has been paid. The user will then receive a full working copy of Window-Eyes, thus allowing him or her to make monthly payments and still have full access to the software. This allows people on fixed or low incomes are able to get Window-Eyes without additional delays or difficulties.

We will also discuss potential new features, and solicit feedback from the participants for new features they would like to see in upcoming releases.
