Using funds from the USF (Universal SErvice Fee), the Public Utility Commission of Texas has authorized a bold new program, Speak Up Texas. This program, designed to increase use of the Speech to Speech Relay System is providing at home communication training to any Texas resident with a communication disability.

In this session we will review the process of developing and implementing this new program which has resulted in a 900% increase in telephone use in only 3 months of operation. Samples of the on-line database for record keeping, training format and CD based educational module will be reviewed. Participants will be eligible to receive the educational module at no cost.

The educational module will include video samples of training strategies, sample communication scripts, sample communication boards and a variety of printable communication training activities appropriate for use with elementary school through adult levels of instruction. Eleven units will be created for the purpose of providing on-going support to parents, educators and therapists who want support in addressing telephone communication as a component of augmentative communication skills.
