Do you work with students with significant or complex challenges? I do. This is what I've learned during all my years of teaching. I am a successful teacher when my students learn. My students are successful learners when I break learning down to small steps. They are successful when I build on what they can do. They are successful when I expect them to be successful. When their faces light up, I know they've been successful.

Our student's limitation is often that we, the educators, don't know what to do, especially if the student is hard to engage or motivate. Traditional teaching materials and games come in one format. So we, the teachers have to figure out how to adapt the material for different physical access needs. We have to figure out how to adapt the material for individual learning styles. We have to figure out how to adapt the material for different levels of learning.

This session will focus on teaching techniques and applications to move students with significant disabilities in small steps into interaction and learning. You will learn how to implement my step-by-step approach to learning.. We will use a variety of products, from Concepts on the Move™ series and Print, Play & Learn™ to TouchCorders™ linking communication devices, to apply the principals of incremental learning. We will discuss and use different access methods and devices: single switch, two switch, touch screen and IntelliKeys keyboard. We will break the same activities into four levels: Training, Easy, Medium and Advanced. We will learn how to modify an activity by structure and content.

You will adapt toys. You will create off the computer activities such as folder activities and learning games. You will learn how to use Concepts on the Move for assessment, training and collecting student data. You will learn how to use the TouchCorders recordable communicators to make auditory processing activities, stories, sorting and more.

We will cover solutions for students of any age functioning at preschool - grade 2 level. You'll learn the steps to learning and receive free software to create success with for students!
