Marlaina Lieberg
Director of Training Services
HumanWare, Inc., a Pulse Data International Company
This session will provide a hands-on orientation to the BrailleNote, for educators and other professionals in the field of blindness.
The BrailleNote is a note-taker which is manufactured by Pulse Data International, located in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is marketed, distributed and supported in North America by HumanWare, inc. It has been on the market for two years, and has become the standard to which other note-takers aspire.
BrailleNote operates under Windows CE. This permits seamless integration with most of the basic Microsoft Word functions, pop3 email, the ability to multi-task, and perhaps most importantly compatibility with most mainstream desktop or laptop computers.
HumanWare, Inc. provides BrailleNote orientation workshops at no cost to educators and other professionals in the field of blindness. This session will represent an abridged version of those four-hour workshops. If you are an educator or other professional in this field, you will learn how your school or agency can sponsor a free four-hour orientation in your home area.
In this session, participants will be given an overview of the BrailleNote's features and capabilities. Marlaina Lieberg, Director of Training Services for HumanWare, Inc. and a BrailleNote user herself, will demonstrate BrailleNote's word processor, email client, and planner. She will further discuss and demonstrate BrailleNote's compatibility with Web-Braille, Port-a-Books, and Kurzweil 1000 files. Real-life examples will be given illustrating ways in which blind persons are currently using BrailleNote both in classroom and professional settings. To the greatest extent possible, each participant will have a BrailleNote unit with which to work during this session.
