Join this hands-on lab and learn how to use BuildAbility to create lessons that will help your students build their reading and learning abilities!

Students with disabilities and struggling students often lack the multiple opportunities they need to read and reread text. These students have limited access to literacy materials that are at an appropriate age and interest level. Consequently, these students usually possess little or no background knowledge and have weak language and vocabulary skills.

Educators need a tool to make accessible stories and lessons that match the curriculum and allow students at the cause-and-effect level to have literacy experiences.

BuildAbility is the extremely flexible tool to do just that. Teachers use BuildAbility to easily create lessons for cause and effect, basic skills, vocabulary building, reading and curriculum knowledge with appropriate learning scaffolds. With this single program, teachers can adapt their curriculum to meet the different needs of multiple students, build students' background knowledge and allow students to demonstrate their knowledge.

In this lab, attendees will create multimedia computer stories and learn how to import graphics, movies, text, speech and sounds into their stories. Participants will also learn how to use BuildAbility's exclusive Drawmation(TM) feature to engage students in the learning experience. In just four easy steps, attendees will see how easy it is to create a BuildAbility activity.

After creating their own activities, participants will also learn how to publish their completed stories and how to modify stories to match the needs of emergent readers, beginning readers and fluent readers.
