Students with disabilities face many challenges to improving their literacy skills. Yet it is critical that these students learn to read and write so they can participate in the entire curriculum. What’s the best way to help your students with disabilities have successful literacy experiences? Attend this session and find out.

Attendees at this session will learn about the Circle of Literacy Learning. Based on best practices and supported by expert research, the Circle of Literacy Learning represents the best learning intervention fundamentals for students with disabilities:

• Literacy instruction must be done every day in four areas—self-selected reading, reading comprehension, word study and writing.
• Students with disabilities need early and frequent experiences in all literacy areas to build a foundation for skills development. Scribbling, being read to and making up words and stories are invaluable activities for building a literacy foundation.
• Students need lots of opportunities to read and write in order for them to learn to read and write. Selecting the right computer access product is a critical intervention in literacy learning. The assistive technology must give access to literacy learning products and meet students’ physical skills.
• Students need to use supported literacy tools that compensate for the lack of skills in an area of literacy. Good learning intervention provides the solutions that help students cross the threshold to successful experiences.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of using our access, reading, writing and word-study products to deliver the best literacy instruction for students with disabilities.
