The Central American Virtual Archives Project
The development of a Virtual Archive that will document the lives of Central Americans in the United States. This ongoing project includes photographs and filmed testimonials of the immigration experience.
Los Angeles-San Salvador Sister City Committee
CARPI is an active part of the Los Angeles-San Salvador Sister City Committee, which has opened the door for the implementation of a variety of projects and the creation of a number of spaces, both in Los Angeles and in San Salvador, that provide visibility and opportunities to the large number of Salvadoran immigrants who currently live in Los Angeles.
Cooperation Agreements with Central American universities
The establishment of Cooperation Agreements with Central American universities:
1. Cooperation Agreement between CSUN and the University of Costa Rica (UCR). Agreement negotiations were initiated during the Fall, 2004. Participating centers: The Central American Research and Policy Institute (CARPI) at CSUN, the Centro de Investigación en Identidad y Cultura Latinoamericana (CIICLA) and the Centro de Investigación en Estudios de la Mujer (CIEM) at the University of Costa Rica. CARPI and CIICLA are currently collaborating in the following project in progress: the writing of a 6 volume history of Central American literature with an editing team including scholars from a variety of universities in the United States, Central America and Europe.
2. Cooperation Agreement between CSUN and the National University, San Salvador, El Salvador (UES). Agreement negotiations were initiated during the Summer, 2005. Participating Centers: The Central American Research and Policy Institute (CARPI) at CSUN and the Instituto de Arqueología, Historia y Antropología de la Universidad de El Salvador (UES).
The Study of Hometown Associations
The study of the transnational form of organizing known as Hometown Associations through CARPI's active documentation of Hometown Associations’ work and history as well as through CARPI's direct participation in the organization of a series of bi-Annual Hometown Association and Local Development Conferences.
