David Dow Rutherford is a 1983 graduate of CSUN with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He spent eight years (1981-1989) with the Daily News of Los Angeles, as an editorial assistant, city desk clerk, religion page editor, general assignment reporter and business reporter.
From 1989-2002, David was a senior public information officer for the South Coast Air Quality Management District, a regional air-pollution control agency serving much of southern California, providing media, local government and community affairs. He helped form the agency's visiting dignitaries program, serving as host to high-ranking individuals and delegations representing government, academia and environmental interests.
In 1998, he received a master's degree in public policy from Claremont Graduate University.
In 2000, David began working part-time in the financial services industry and in 2002 became a full-time licensed registered representative with Primerica Financial Services, the marketing arm of Citigroup. Six years later, he became an investment executive with Trilogy Financial Services. In 2007, he was promoted to senior investment executive.
David is an active member of Lions Clubs International, which he joined in 1996. In 2007 he was elected to his third term as president of the City of Industry Lions Club and was appointed to a five-year term as chairman of the Public Relations and Lion Information Committee for Multiple District 4, which covers the state of California.
He was president of the CSUN Journalism Alumni Association in 2000-2001. Currently, David serves on the board of the John Muir High School Alumni Association in Pasadena, as membership committee chairman.
