Tough Guise: Violence, Media and the Crisis in Masculinity a presentation by Dr. Jackson Katz

Tuesday, October 01 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm - Grand Salon, USU

Dr. Jackson Katz is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in gender violence prevention education in schools, the sports culture and the military, as well as for his pioneering work in critical media literacy. Dr. Katz is co-founder of the multiracial, mixed-gender Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program at Northeastern Universitys Center for the Study of Sport in Society. MVP is the most widely utilized sexual and domestic violence prevention program in college and professional athletics in North America.

Dr. Katz created the first worldwide gender violence prevention program in the history of the U.S. Marine Corps. He and his colleagues have been centrally involved in the development and implementation of the Air Force-wide Bystander Intervention Training, and MVP is currently a core feature of the sexual assault prevention initiative in the US Navy.

Dr. Katz holds an undergraduate degree in philosophy and womens studies from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, a masters degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Ph.D. in cultural studies and education from UCLA.
