Thursday, March 7th is the 8th Annual Technical Symposium hosted by the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, its alumni chapter, and its student association. Nanotechnology (one nanometer is one-billionth of a meter) is an emerging industry that involves the control of atoms and molecules to create new materials with a variety of useful functions. As concerns grow about their effects on living organisms and the environment, the symposium brings together experts to shed light on these tiny chemical messengers. Among the line up of nationally recognized speakers is Tony Machado (EOH) who also organizes the event with the Alumni Chapter President, Bob Finkelstein. Jennie will tell her story at this event, and discuss one of the major problems women confront today, finding work that pays a livable wage.

Chicanos for Community Medicine would like to invite you to help save a life. This blood drive will be held in the Flintridge Room (USU). The National Cesar E. Chavez Blood Drive Challenge celebrates Cesar E. Chavez's Legacy as an American civic leader by engaging college students to promote 1) health education, 2) health & science careers, 3) civic engagement and 4) saving lives! Student leaders organize a blood donor recruitment campaign on their college campus culminating in a campus-wide health service learning event. The event was founded in 2009 and is now expecting up to 250 colleges/universities and more than 30,000 students participate nationwide during the 2013 campaign.

3rd Annual Cesar Chavez Service Fair

The fair will include the tabling of over 60 nonprofit organizations who will provide students with opportunities to network, volunteer, and intern with their respective organization.
This is a great opportunity for CSUN students, faculty, staff, clubs and organizations to find out ways they can directly impact their surrounding community.
This will be a festive day filled with food and music to fit within the Cesar Chavez theme- A very exciting day!

CSUN Pi Kappa Alpha Race to Nowhere for a Cure

CSUN Pike will ride in place on stationary bikes for philanthropy. April 20th 2013 California State University (CSUN) fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha is throwing their first annual Cycle For life philanthropy from 11-7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Motivation Room.
Cycle for life was created in the memory of fraternity brother Taylor Trudeau who passed away in 2008 after a long fight against leukemia. Donations benefit blood cancer and are 100% tax deductible. No money will be deducted from what is raised for any operating expenses. All funds will be sent directly to research and raising awareness for Leukemia, Lymphoma and melanoma.
This is a stationary bike marathon put on by Pikes at 80 college campuses across the United States and Canada. The ways to get involved include:
Sponsors $10 to ride a stationary bike for ½ hour on the event date. Tables will be outside of the SRC as the event draws nearer to get a time slot or ask a pike on campus.
Sponsor a rider for ½ hour intervals at any amount.
There is a third party that will match $500 if $500 at least that amount is sent it through email donations.
