Jonathan Batiste is the founder and leader of The Stay Human Band, a modern jazz ensemble noted for its world-class music, high-energy and uplifting spirit. A talented and already well-traveled ambassador for jazz, this dapper young musician and his band have ignited the New York City music scene and is poised to take over Los Angeles, as well. The debut in our Great Hall promises to be one of the season's much talked about performances.

Nicknamed "Rostropovich of the Future" by the late, great Russian virtuoso, Grammy-nominated Mischa Maisky has made over 30 recordings with premier orchestras such as the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, the London Symphony, and the Israeli Philharmonic as an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist during the last 25 years. Poetry and exquisite delicacy combined with great temperament and brilliant technique are Maisky's artistic trademarks and will be on full display in this evening's inspiring repertoire.

Revered as guardians of the mariachi legacy, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan presents a festive repertoire of rhythms, dance, and vocals for an exciting evening of pageantry and musical virtuosity. Founded in 1897, the quintessential kings of Mexican folk music earned their reputation as el mejor mariachi del mundo (the best mariachi group in the world) by virtue of their commitment to tradition and emphasis on superior musicianship and singing ability. Breaking new ground, the legendary group added to its prolific collection a first-ever mariachi opera -- Cruzar La Cara de la Luna (To Cross the Face of the Moon), which debuted in November 2010 and was created by director Jose "Pepe" Martinez, Sr.
