Day 1 - Stop Audism!
Featuring presentations by Flavia Fleischer and Will Garrow of the Deaf Studies Department.
Deaf people are subject to being oppressed based on their hearing status. Are you an audist? Dr. Will Garrow, Assistant Professor of Deaf Studies, will present on the theoretical understanding of audism. Dr. Flavia Fleischer, Chair and Associate Professor of Deaf Studies, will provide a further understanding of audism by presenting about constructing and maintaining spaces of resistance. The presentations will be complimented by actual testimonies from Deaf students about their experiences facing audism.
Day 2 - A Celebration of Resistance!
Featuring a special presentation by distinguished visiting speaker Ella Mae Lentz.
Ella is a respected member of the Deaf community and advocate against audism and oralism for Deaf people.
