"In the Mirror"

Building Social Emotional Capacity in the Lives of Young African American Children

This topic will address issues of social and emotional development in young African American children (e.g. birth to 5 years old) as it relates to mental health in the 21st century.  Key components of the lecture will include the significance of early parent-child relationships, the impact of trauma, and the effects of racial socialization.

The presenter, Vivian L. Tamkin, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who specializes in Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health at her private practice in Pasadena, CA.  She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois Unviersity, Carbondale with a minor in Child Clinical Psychology.
