Science fiction literature, one of the most popular and entertaining genres in modern fiction, has been read and loved by children and adults for decades. From the earliest pulp publications to modern masterpieces, science fiction short stories and novels have often functioned as a lens through which we express our sense of wonder, marvel at the possibilities of new technologies, and engage in our wildest imaginings. Join us as we celebrate the fantastic and strange in science fiction literature.

The Art Galleries of California State University Northridge open their Sixteenth Annual High School Art Invitational, Monday, January 7th, in the Main Gallery. Thirty-six San Fernando Valley high schools and nearly two hundred students participated in this show. The exhibitors have been selected by their individual art teachers at each school; the works are in various media, including painting, sculpture, video, graphic design and mixed media. The popularity of this exhibition signals the continued and growing interest of arts programs in public and private schools.

The Art Galleries of California State University Northridge invited San Fernando Valley high school teachers to display their work during the 16th Annual High School Art Invitational. Two teachers from each school were invited using the same size requirements as their students; all artwork under 3’ x 3’ x 3’ would be accepted. Twenty four teachers participated in this year’s invitational.
