Featuring Omara Portuondo, Guajiro Mirabal, Barbarito Torres, and Eliades Ochoa, with special guest Robert Fonseca

Since its introduction to an international audience by American guitarist Ry Cooder, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club has become a worldwide sensation. Over a decade's worth of touring has only increased the group's enthusiasm for performing to packed houses and their sound has remained utterly fresh since the release of their debut album in 1997.

The band continues to thrive with the addition of skilled musicians and legendary Buena Vista Social Club alumni such as trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal, vocalist Omara Portuondo and laúd virtuoso Barbarito Torres, who are passionate about Cuban music. Each put their individual stamp on classic styles such as the son montuno, danzón, cha cha cha, bolero, and Cuban jazz. Talented young pianist Roberto Fonseca opens the evening with a program of deep, soulful and expressive Latin jazz notes.

8:00 pm - 10:00 pm - Valley Performing Arts Center

KCSN Presents

In 1975, when Emmylou Harris recorded her first major label solo album, Pieces of the Sky, after the death of her singing partner Gram Parsons, she chose a song by a virtually unknown songwriter to open the album. That songwriter was Rodney Crowell, who Harris also recruited to be a guitarist and harmony singer in her backup group The Hot Band. Since that time, although they have gone their own ways professionally with great success -- both are Grammy Award-winners -- they have remained good friends. That 40-year friendship has brought them full-circle to record their debut project, the recently released Old Yellow Moon. This performance brings on stage two great artists whose contribution to American music continues to inspire musicians and fans worldwide.
