A Retrospective of the films of Francois Truffaut
The Last Metro (Le dernier metro) (1980, 131 mins.)
Gerard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve star as members of a French theater company living under the German occupation during World War II in Truffaut's gripping, humanist character study. Against all odds -- a Jewish theater manager in hiding; a leading man who's in the Resistance; increasingly restrictive Nazi oversight -- the troupe believes the show must go on. Equal parts romance, historical tragedy, and even comedy, The Last Metro is Truffaut's ultimate tribute to art overcoming adversity.

A Retrospective of the films of Francois Truffaut
Confidentially Yours (Vivement dimanche!) (1983, 110 mins.)
In this light but nearly faultless homage to the classic film noir thriller, Truffaut showcases one of his favorite actresses, Fanny Ardant, as Barbara, an enterprising secretary in love with her boss (Jean-Louis Trintignant) but up against clearing him of murder. To resolve the mystery and reveal the real killer, she has no choice but to betray the man she loves. Truffaut's final film, Confidentially Yours is an enduring expression of the director's long fascination with the American cinema.

KRZYSZTOF KIESLOWSKI RETROSPECTIVE
Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski was a leading director of documentaries, television and feature films from the 1970s to the 1990s. The social and moral themes of contemporary times became the focus of his many significant films and his unique humanist treatment of those themes secured his place as one of the greatest of modern film directors.
The Scar (Blizna), 1976 -- 112 mins.
Kieslowski's feature film debut tells the story of the shifting fortunes of a massive factory project in rural postwar Poland. The Scar is filled with the vivid characters, lucid imagery and the incisive but even-handed social criticism that would define his early films.

Documentaries and Short Subjects, 1966-1976 -- 120 mins.
A program of short films and documentaries made by Kieslowski between 1969 and 1980. More overtly political than his later feature films, these earlier efforts nonetheless reveal Kieslowski's talent for capturing the broad complexities of the human condition.
