Chick Corea and Gary Burton Hot House Tour with the Harlem String Quartet

National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and 16-time Grammy-winning pianist Chick Corea joins forces with award-winning vibraphonist Gary Burton for their Hot House Tour with the Harlem String Quartet. Since 1972 the duo has been one of the jazz world’s most celebrated collaborations, performing improvisation-laced programs uncommon in their popularity, innovation and creativity. Corea and Burton will perform material from their new album Hot House, exploring their unique takes on standards by composers from Kurt Weill and Antonio Carlos Jobim to Thelonious Monk and Lennon & McCartney. Tonight’s performance is an extraordinary opportunity for audiences to observe witty, playful and artistically-engaged musicians as they explore the boundaries of jazz.

Promising young tenor Paul Appleby possesses an elegant, warm voice and the ability to perform in roles such as Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos (Metropolitan Opera debut), Agenore in Il Re Pastore, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Fenton in Falstaff, as well as sultry, vibrantly-colored Argentinian and Brazilian songs and jazzy American popular standards by Gershwin and others.  The New York Times describes him as a “…[n]uanced, expressive and bright hued tenor.”

The Mavericks are back! The Grammy Award-winning post-modern country-steeped garage band makes their debut on our Great Hall stage with a presentation of songs from its new release In Time, as well as some of its most popular hits.
Formed in the early 1990’s and led by Cuban American frontman Raul Malo, the band carved its own brand of music on the American music landscape with a melting pot of music styles. Mariachi, Tejano, rock, pop, Cubano tinges and even touches of rockabilly are all wrapped in country-flavored tones to create the group’s unique and indelible sound.
With this performance, the band celebrates 20 years of performing the music they love, as well as their first studio project In Time, since disbanding in 1999.

She teams up with Grammy-winning baritone Nathan Gunn, “a singer of unmistakable star power” (Opera News), who also happens to be one of People magazine’s 50 sexiest men alive, for an evening of romantic duets from the Broadway stage. Highlights include showstoppers from Carousel, Show Boat, Kiss Me Kate, West Side Story, and much more.Broadway's Classic Hits is created, hosted and conducted by Tony Award-winner Ted Sperling.

Many of the ensemble’s works reflect the traditions of indigenous Mesoamerican culture.  Performed in colorful costumes by dancers in bare feet who emote the sensuality, joy and exuberance of Mexican culture, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernandez will leave you breathless.

A venerable European institution, The Warsaw Philharmonic comes to the Valley Performing Arts Center for a presentation of works by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Since its first concert in 1901, The Warsaw Philharmonic has remained a leading orchestral ensemble and has played a major role in introducing audiences worldwide to many of the now famous classical composers and musicians from central Europe. Appearing with the orchestra is Yulianna Avdeeva, 2010 winner of the International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition.
