Class Level
Your class level is determined by the total number of units you have earned. Your placement in lower division (100-200 level) and upper division (300-400 level) courses are based on your class level. The following is a breakdown:

Declaring a major in COBAE
Students must meet the standards set for major change/declaration as explained on the Major and Minor Policy, approved on May 25, 2010. In addition, students must have at least a 2.0 CSUN and Total GPAs, in order to declare a major in the College of Business and Economics. Declaring a double major
Students must meet the standards set for second major declaration as explained on the Major and Minor Policy, approved on May 25, 2010. Please visit Major and Minor Policy for detailed explanation of this policy. In addition, students must have a 3.0 overall GPA in order to declare a second major in the College of Business and Economics. Declaring a minor
Students must meet the standards set for minor change/declaration as explained on the Major and Minor Policy, approved on May 25, 2010. Please visit Major and Minor Policy for detailed explanation of this policy. To obtain the Minor Change/Declaration Form, please visit Declaring Minor Form.
Impaction
Accountancy, Finance, and Insurance and Financial Services are impacted majors which means students must meet higher standards in order to declare a major in these areas. Accountancy requires a minimum 3.00 GPA and has limits on repeating courses in the major. Finance and Insurance and Financial Services require 60+ units and a 2.50 or higher total GPA. Effective Fall 2013, students must have a total GPA of 2.60 in order to declare Finance or Insurance and Financial Services as their major. Students will typically start out as Pre-Accountancy, Pre-Finance, or Pre-Insurance and Financial Services major until they meet the requirements for admission into the impacted major.
COBAE Academic Policies
Finance and Business Administration majors with an option in Insurance and Financial Services or Real Estate: A grade of “C” or higher is required for students enrolled in FIN 303 in Spring 2010 or later.
Management majors: A grade of “C” or higher is required for students enrolled in MGT 360 in Fall 2008 or later.
Marketing majors: A grade of “C” or higher is required for students enrolled in MKT 304 in Spring 2010 or later.
Dean’s List
Students who complete a minimum of twelve graded semester units (CR/NC courses do not apply) and who achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better are awarded Dean’s List standing for that semester.
Students whose minimum unit load includes Extension courses may apply for Dean’s List standing if the Extension courses are required for the student’s major and if the Extension courses are taught by members of the CSUN faculty. If a grade change brings a student’s grade point average up to 3.5, the student may apply at Admissions and Records to have the honor awarded retroactively.

Academic Probation
Students are placed on probation if either their Total GPA or CSUN GPA falls below 2.00 at the conclusion of any term. Students on probation are eligible to enroll in the University through the regular enrollment process but will have a registration hold. See current unofficial CSUN transcript for GPA totals after Admission and Records audits records each semester, approximately four weeks after final grades are posted. Admissions and Records will notify students of their Probation status at the end of each Fall and Spring semester.
Advisement Process for COBAE students on academic probation
Students will have a registration hold during the semester immediately following placement on probation and each fall and spring semester thereafter while on probation. Prior to registration, COBAE majors must complete the Online Probation Workshop and then schedule an appointment with an advisor. The registration hold will be removed once the student has been advised.
Advisement Process for NON-COBAE students on academic probation
In order to declare a major in the College of Business and Economics (COBAE), students must have at least a 2.0 CSUN and Total GPAs. To obtain information about COBAE majors and options, please visit Degree Options. Planner sheets and four-year degree plans are available for major exploration and course selection. COBAE Advisors are unable to remove probation holds for students who are not declared Business majors. Once you are no longer on academic probation, please complete the COBAE Online Overview Workshop. Upon successful completion of the Overview Online Workshop, please call (818) 677-3537 to schedule an advisement appointment.
Academic Disqualification
Any student whose total GPA is below a 1.0 will be disqualified immediately without first being placed on probation. A student on probation may also be disqualified after the following semester if his/her CSUN or Total GPA is below the minimum level for the class level (See Table below).

Criteria used by College of Business and Economics for readmission of previously disqualified students
Students with one or two prior disqualification from CSUN may be considered for readmission to the College of Business and Economics when they meet all of the following conditions:
Show consistent academic success since the last disqualification. Grades of Incomplete, W, or grades below “C” are not considered to be a demonstration of academic success.
Raise CSUN and total grade point averages (GPAs) by a significant amount PRIOR to readmission.
Must achieve significant GPA improvement no later than previous spring for a fall admission cycle.
Complete your lower division business core requirements successfully.
If you were disqualified after completion of your lower division business core, complete your upper division business core requirements for your chosen major. For example, complete MGT 360 and BUS 302/L if you are planning to pursue Management.
If the University accepts applications for previously disqualified students, submit an application for readmission through CSU Mentor during the FILING PERIOD. All supporting documents such as the Previously Disqualified Questionnaire form must be submitted by established deadlines. Please visit Students Returning for additional information.
Submit official transcripts from any other colleges attended since last enrollment at CSUN.
College of Business and Economics and University approval for readmission after disqualification is required. Not all students will be readmitted. Impacted majors such as Accountancy, Finance, and Financial Services are not available for readmission consideration.
Enrollment at CSUN through Tseng College:
Prior to readmission, students may complete up to 24 units through the Tseng College at CSUN. For enrollment information visit the Tseng College website.
Enrollment at Community Colleges:
Students may complete lower division coursework at a community college. Please seek advisement with a community college counselor and inquire about General Education Certification. See www.assist.org for course equivalencies for CSUN courses. Courses completed at colleges other than CSUN will contribute toward the total (cumulative) GPA, but do not change the CSUN GPA.
Important Information:
Courses taken at colleges other than CSUN will only affect your total grade point average.
The University may impose additional conditions for readmission, including completion of General Education Section A and Upper Division Writing Proficiency Exam.
Students will follow the catalog year for the major requirements in effect at the time of readmission. Not all majors available at readmission. Some majors have impaction or other restrictions.
Students who are disqualified for a third time may reapply to the University after a minimum waiting period of five years. Students must provide evidence that demonstrates acquired skills or achievements that support a successful return to the University.
Advisement Process for COBAE students on academic disqualification
College of Business and Economics (COBAE) students who are disqualified will be required to complete the Online Disqualification Workshop. Once the online disqualification workshop is completed successfully, an advisement contract will be mailed to you. Students may schedule an appointment with an advisor once the workshop is completed and they have received their contract.

Upper Division Writing Proficiency Requirement
Students who have completed 56 units and have met the lower division writing requirement will be required to take an essay examination. The UDWPE must be attempted prior to completing 75 units or a registration hold will be placed on your account. Passing the UDWPE is required prior to enrolling in 400-level courses in the major.
