Paid Time Off

California State University Northridge values enabling its eligible employees the opportunity to achieve a work-life balance through paid vacation, holiday scheduling, a Personal Holiday, and time to attend to personal and community obligations.  Click on the title of the leave type for specific information.

I. Vacation:

Vacation is an accrued benefit which provides paid time off, subject to management approval, for eligible employees. For each qualifying pay period, vacation is earned at a rate applicable to your length of state service. Part-time employees earn vacation on a pro-rata basis.

II. Personal Holiday:

An eligible employee is entitled to one (1) Personal Holiday each calendar year which must be used within that year. The scheduling of this holiday shall be by mutual agreement of the employee and the appropriate administrator in accordance with departmental leave time procedures.

III. Holidays:

As employees of the State, all employees are entitled to 14 paid holidays on the day they are observed unless the employee is in a non-paid status on the holiday or they are required to perform necessary services.

IV. Bereavement / Funeral Leave:

The CSU Bereavement Leave Policy provides paid time off for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or traveling to a funeral for the employee's immediate family or close relative as defined by the employee's current collective bargaining agreements.

V. Jury Duty:

The CSU will continue an employee’s salary (excepting student employees) while on jury duty, regardless of the length of service. Employees who are summoned to jury service must report that their employer will pay for unlimited time on a jury.
