Disability & Life Insurance Programs

California State University is pleased to offer a variety of employer paid insurance coverage programs to eligible employees.

I. Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI):

The Nonindustrial Disability (NDI) Program is a wage continuation program administered by the Employment Development Department (EDD) for eligible employees that have suffered loss of wages due to a disability or injury that is non-work related. The NDI program defines "disability" as: "mental or physical illness and mental or physical injury, including any illness or injury resulting from pregnancy, childbirth or related medical condition".

View the CSU Nonindustrial Disability Insurance website for more eligibility and coverage information.

II. Industrial Disability Leave Insurance (IDL):

The Industrial Disability Leave (IDL) Program is a wage continuation program, in lieu of Workers' Compensation Temporary Disability (TD) benefits for CSU employees who have suffered a work related injury or illness. Employees deemed eligible for this benefit also must be members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).

View the Industrial Disability Insurance website for more information including eligibility and coverage information.

III. Disability for Public Safety (Enhanced Industrial Disability Leave [EIDL]):

The Enhanced Industrial Disability Leave (EIDL) Program is a wage continuation program, in lieu of Workers' Compensation Temporary Disability (TD) benefits for eligible Public Safety employees who have suffered a work related injury or illness (some restrictions, including a three day waiting period, may apply). Currently, only sworn Public Safety (Unit 8) employees are eligible for EIDL benefits. Please note, Public Safety Public Chiefs and Lieutenants are not eligible for this benefit. Employees deemed eligible for this benefit also must be members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).

LTD insurance is designed to pay a monthly benefit to you in the event you cannot work for an extended period of time because of a covered illness or injury. This LTD benefit replaces a portion of your income, helping you to meet your financial commitments in a time of need. Estimate Disability Insurance Needs
