Student Joyclyn Dunham explores the Oviatt Library

Appropriately located in the center of the main campus, the Oviatt Library is the symbolic heart of intellectual life at CSUN.

It offers-worlds of knowledge for students like Joyclyn Dunham, who can choose from more than one million books, 20,000 electronic journals, a world-class system of government documents, CDs, DVDs, videos and more.

Whether she is there to do intensive research or for an afternoon of pleasure reading, Joyclyn will find at the Oviatt an environment thoughtfully designed to fit the purpose: The Special Collections and Archives Department is home to an extensive urban studies archive, digital collections featuring the history of the San Fernando Valley, international guitar research, as well as historical materials on Old China Hands and Latino cultural heritage. For future teachers, the library’s Teacher Curriculum Center is a major resource.

When students like Joyclyn, faculty, staff or community members need a refuge to read just for the joy of it, they can relax in the library’s Reading Room, a tranquil second floor retreat where a world of literature both great and popular awaits them.

Highly skilled and responsive librarians and staff, a state-of-the- art automated retrieval system and databases, an impressive blend of new technologies and old-fashioned respect for service…all have made the Oviatt the premier research facility of the San Fernando Valley.
