What is RecycleMania?
Beginning February 1, and spanning over an 8-week period which will conclude on March 28th, Associated Students (AS) Sustainability and Recycling services will foster RecycleMania, an event intended to inspire university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities. Universities will engage in friendly competition by tracking weekly amounts of recycling and trash collection, keeping record of their performance in relation to other campuses. AS Recycling encourages the CSUN community to commit themselves to RecycleMania, an effort to place CSUN amongst top ranking universities.
What can students, faculty and staff do?
To help up rank high, we encourage all students to recycle. At the end of each week, participating campuses will report the amount of recycling collected. Campuses will be ranked in various categories according to who recycles the most on a per capita basis. Additionally, schools will be ranked based on the recycling rate as a percentage of total waste and which schools generate the least amount of combined trash and recycling. National recognition is provided to the winning school in each category on the RecycleMania website. What can you recycle:
- Bottles and Cans
- Inkjet and Laser Cartridges
As part of the national RecycleMania tournament, AS Sustainability and Recycling is holding an e-waste drive during March! We want to encourage the campus community to participate by bringing in old and broken electronics to the AS Marketing/ Sustainability and Recycling office in the USU.
Drop-off times are M-F, 10-3pm. *For large and multiple items, please call (818) 677-4262 ahead of time.
