Jodi Bonassi: Shop Talk

Jodi Bonassi studies the rewards of conversations that occur in the public settings of barbershops and cafes. This series of paintings, from 1999 to the present reflects her on-going study of shared moments in sites around the San Fernando Valley. (In her works, the sense of community and shared heritage provide interesting and diverse visual narratives.) The transformation experienced by salon and café patrons coming from the harried and stressed activities of the day to a relaxed and accepting environment is the key narrative moment in Bonassi’s work.
