Corita Kent is one of America¹s most celebrated serigraph artists, creating works that won her international acclaim from the 1950s until her death in 1986. As art professor at Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles, Sister Corita¹s hallmark mixture of captivating images and provocative texts delivered messages of hope and joy to a troubled world. For those who remember the turbulent 60s, she is Sister Mary Corita, the California nun who captured the national imagination by making art that influenced a generation of Americans. This exhibition is organized by the CSUN Art Galleries and is guest curated by Aaron Rose in cooperation with the Corita Art Center, www.corita.org, home of the largest collection of Corita¹s seragraphs in the world. A series of workshops will be held selected Saturdays during the exhibition based on the teachings of Corita. |
