Jennifer graduated from CSUN with a BA in Art Studio in 2003, and she received an MA in Art with an emphasis in Painting back in 2005. The following year she began working on her MFA at Mills College in Oakland, CA. At Mills. Jennifer received the Catherine Morgan Trefethen Fellowship, which is a competitive award given at the end of the first year of study. Jennifer is graduating this May 2010, and her MFA Thesis show, "Things Held", will be at the Mills College Art Museum from April 28th through May 24th. Opening reception will be held on April 29th.
Jennifer's thought process behind her art is as follows: "Some of the things we hold, we hold intimately, and they remind us of ourselves. Likewise with objects that hold us. Over time, their marred surfaces reveal our relationship to them through the physical residue of our touch, which dirties them, wears them down, and may even leave them cracked and broken. Those traces of vulnerability, when heightened and held up for examination, become metaphors for an emotional and physical falling apart. Larger than life, these objects point to both presence and absence, and speak to that slippage between subject and object, object and body, and a record of what once was and still is."
