General Anthropology Option

Minimum of 30 units of graduate work (400, 500 and 600 level courses) in consultation with and advisor. At least 8 course must be in Anthropology and 21 units must be 500/600 level courses. All classes are 3 units each.

Four graduate seminars (12 units)

ANTH 601 Seminar in Anthropological Theory
ANTH 602 Problems in Cultural Anthropology
ANTH 603 Problems in Physical Anthropology
ANTH 606 Problems in Archaeology

Approved electives at the 400 and 500 level, including 499 and 599
(12 units)

Thesis Option:
ANTH 696A Directed Graduate Research (2 units)
ANTH 696B Directed Graduate Research (2 units)
ANTH 698 Thesis (2 units)

Comprehensive Exam Option:
ANTH 696A Directed Graduate Research (2 units)
ANTH 696B Directed Graduate Research (2 units)
ANTH 696C Directed Graduate Research (2 units)
ANTH 697 Directed Comprehensive Studies (students enroll in ANTH 697 during the semester they take the examination)

Research Skill: proficiency in one of the following:

  • a foreign language
  • computer science (101/105 and 205 or equivilent)
  • one upper division statistics course in addition to Math 140, or Anth 475

Satisfactory completion of a graduate thesis, project, or comprehensive examination directed by the student's committee.

Public Archaeology Option
