FTES Scenarios: Advice from Academic Resources
Colleges must plan to schedule at least 15% of their total course offerings (measured by FTES generation) on Fridays, Saturdays, or with Friday-Saturday combinations. The SOC Worksheet template (http://www.csun.edu/academic.resources/) is used to calculate the FTES percentage from Friday and/or Saturday classes.
In the columns labeled FTES Fx for F/S Meeting and/or the FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM Meeting (highlighted in green), each class receives a factor of 1, 0, or a prorated fraction depending on the meeting pattern. This factor is then multiplied by the FTES generated by the section and is calculated in the F/S FTES columns.
Friday/Saturday (FS) Classes
1. Classes on Friday, Saturday or Sunday receive a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx column.
Example A below: Class Nbr 10059, F 900-1350, generated 6.9 FTES x 1.0 FTES Fx = 6.9 FTES credited towards the F/S FTES requirement.

2. Classes on multiple days including Friday or Saturday receive a prorated factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx column. For example, a two day class on WF receives (1 FTES ÷ 2 days = 0.50 FTES Fx)
Example B below: Class Nbr 14333, WF 1400-1450, generated 0.3 FTES x 0.50 FTES Fx = 0.2 FTES credited towards the F/S FTES requirement.

Online (OL) Classes
3. Online classes on Friday or Saturday receive a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx column only if they are synchronous classes (i.e. meets at a specific day and time). Asynchronous online classes are not factored in at all.

4. Online classes (not on Friday or Saturday) receive a factor of 1.0 inthe FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM column.

Hybrid (HY) Classes
5. Hybrid classes on Friday or Saturday receive a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx column for the in-class component of the course; and a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM column for the online component of the course.

6. Hybrid classes sharing a space receive a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM column for the online and in-class components of the course.

7. Hybrid classes (not on Friday or Saturday) or (not sharing a space) receive a factor of 1.0 in the FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM column for the online component of the course.

Off-Campus (OFFCAM) Classes
8. Off-Campus classes on Friday or Saturday receive a factor of 1.0 in each FTES Fx column.

9. Off-Campus classes (not on Friday or Saturday) receive a factor of 1.0 inthe FTES Fx for F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM column.

Percentage FTES Calculation
Each College may complete the following steps in order to calculate the percentage FTES generated on Friday/Saturday meetings and Friday/Saturday/Online/Hybrid/Off-Campus meetings:
Complete each step for C1 – C6 courses only

Step 1 – Sum: Add the FTES in each of the columns for FTES Current, F/S FTES Current and F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM Current
FTES Current = 65.9
F/S FTES Current = 41.5
F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM Current = 64.0
Step 2 – Divide: F/S FTES Current ÷ FTES Current = % F/S FTES
Example: 41.5 ÷ 65.9 = 0.63 becomes 63% F/S FTES
Step 3 – Divide: F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM Current ÷ FTES Current = % F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM FTES
Example: 64.0 ÷ 65.9 = 0.97 becomes 97% F/S/OL/HY/OFFCAM FTES
