The following page is a one column layout with a header that contains a quicklinks jump menu and the search CSUN function. Page sections are identified with headers. The footer contains update, contact and emergency information.

View Holds

This is a tutorial only. No log in is required.


Holds are “indicators” on your student record that require your attention and action. There are many kinds of holds, from “advisement” to “undecided major.”  For example, an Advisement Hold means that you must meet with your academic advisor before enrolling in classes.

Some holds, called Registration Holds, block enrollment in classes. For a list of "milestone" registration holds, see Before You Register.

Check for holds occasionally in order to clear them. You can view holds online in two locations:

  1. Registration holds only – in My Checklist
  2. All holds - In the SOLAR Student Center

Navigating to these two locations is easy. Read on.

Step 1

Go to the CSUN home page at www.csun.edu and:

  • Select the myNorthridge Portal link
  • Log in with your CSUN User ID and Password.

Step 2

The myNorthridge home page displays.

In the My Checklist box, locate the "Incomplete Tasks" heading. This is where any registration holds will display (#1 in the image).

The student in this example has 3 registration holds. To view details, hover your mouse and cursor over each hold message.

Important! Only registration holds display in My Checklist. To view all holds, select the SOLAR Student Center icon in the Quick Links box (not shown).

This student has two advisement holds and one immunization hold.

Step 3

You can view all holds in the SOLAR Student Center in the Holds box.

If no holds have been placed on your record, the words No Holds display.

In this example, the student has two registration holds that require action for:

  • Immunization
  • Academic advisement

Click the details link in the Holds box.

The Student Centeralso has Academics, Finances, and Personal Info headings.

Step 4

The Your Holds page displays.

Three drop down menus allow you to filter your holds by institution, term and department. Filtering is not necessary in most cases. Filter fields display only when two or more holds have been placed on the record.

The Item List table displays holds, amount owed if any, institution, term and department initiating the hold.

Click a Hold Item link to view the reason, contact information, and instructions to clear the hold.

The Hold Item links appear in the first column of the table.

Step 5

The Hold Item page displays the hold you selected, along with the reason, term, contact information, and basic instructions to clear the hold.

Click Return to go back to the Hold Items list.

The Hold Item page provides basic instructions to clear the hold.

Step 6

Back at the Hold Item list, select another hold link.

Or, return to the Student Center. From the drop down menu, select Student Center and click the "GO" button.

Exit the holds page by returning to the Student Center or to myNorthridge.
