Support Programs

The office of Academic Services for Student Athletes along with the Student Athlete Academic Specialist are committed to offering a variety of services focused on enhancing the quality and diversity of the student-athlete experience at CSUN. Services include a Mentoring Program, Tutoring, M.A.S.H. Program, Student Athlete Computer Lab, and a Laptop Computer Checkout Program.

Mentoring The purpose of the program is to provide student athletes with a nurturing intellectual environment. The mentor can help increase a student's self-esteem and greatly improve social and intellectual skills. This is attained by constructive encouragement and consistent academic inspiration. The mentor works with the goal of empowering the student athlete to become more effective and independent learners.

Tutoring The tutoring services provided by the Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes are intended to supplement tutorial services on campus. Student athletes are able to work one-on-one with a tutor either by appointment during the day, or on a walk-in basis during evening sessions.

M.A.S.H. (Matador Academic Success Hour) Examines the academic foundations that help lead to academic success and the adjustment to college life. M.A.S.H. is a once a week workshop session for First Time Freshman that covers a number of academic and life skill concepts such as:

Computer Lab Located in Bayramian Hall 230, the lab consists of 10 Dell desktop computers, an HP LaserJet printer, and enough study space for up to 40 student athletes.

Laptop Computers There are 30 Dell laptop computers that student athletes can use for away competition.

Voice Recorders There are 5 voice recorders that student athletes can use to help record class lectures.
