Check for Accessibility

The Accessibility Viewer displays each item on a slide and any accessibility information associated with it. The left column shows each item and the right column shows the accessibility information.

Images

Images must have a textual description associated with them. The accessibility information will show what the current alternative text. If no alternative text has been entered the box will be red and say "Alternative Text Missing".

Text

Once LecShare processes a PowerPoint file, all text becomes electronic text, and typically does not need further editing. If thereĀ is an accessibility error for what appears to be a text item, it is probably an Autoshape.

Autoshapes

Autoshapes are special shapes that allow an image and text to be presented as a single item. To make an Autoshape accessible, alternative text must be provided for the image portion of the Autoshape.

Charts and Tables

Simple tables should have two accessibility items associated with them: headers and captions or summaries. The accessibility information will be red if the table is missing a caption or summary (only one of the two is required, but both may be provided). The table will also need to be manually checked to ensure the correct number of header rows and columns have been set. Charts are converted into data tables for accessibility purposes and follow the same guidelines as tables.

Slide Titles

Each individual slide should have its own unique title. In the bottom row of the Slide Tray, LecShare will display will either "Title OK", "Duplicate Title", or "Missing Title/Description".
