Editing Text - Links and Lists
Getting Started
After your setup has been complete when you launch Contribute, the file designated as your start page will appear in the main window. To edit, click on the <Edit> button in the upper left of the toolbar.

The page will download and Contribute will turn into word processing mode. The page may look slightly different in edit mode that it will in browse mode. The toolbar shows options for page editing such as image and link insert.

Change The Link Text and Links
Link Text
- Select the first instance of link text by clicking and dragging across the letters or double clicking

- Type your text.

Link URL
- Select your link text.

- Click on the “Link” button. The following options are exposed.

Drafts and Recent pages will present you with a list of draft pages and recently updated pages.
Create New Page will allow you to create a new page and link directly to the highlighted text.
Browse to Web Page is the most common and easiest method to link to a web page. If this option is selected you have two options from which to browse a page (local or external).
Email Address. To create an email link select the text to become a link. Click on the LINK button in the Toolbar and select EMAIL. The Link window opens with the selected text in the Link Text field and the insertion point in the email address window. Type your MAILTO address. For applying Anchor links (which link to sections in the same document) click on the advanced button at the bottom of the LINK window.

Repeat this process for all the links on the page you would like to revise. To preview your work hit the F12 button (on a PC) or select Preview from the Edit menu
Inserting Text
Text can be edited by either doing simple text editing (i.e. highlight the text, then type) or by doing a mass replace of text by copying and pasting text from one page to another. In Contribute, its very important that when a mass copy and paste is done, that it is done correctly, to make sure and not break the template. To do a mass edit (i.e. copying text from one page outside of Contribute, and then pasting the text in a page being edited by Contribute), please look at the following steps:
- Highlight and copy the text from the document that is outside of the Contribute Application

- If your web page is not in editing mode (i.e. the Publish button does not show in the Contribute toolbar), then in the Contribute toolbar, select <Edit Page> to edit your web page.
- Highlight text on the web page being edited in Contribute that will be replaced. Once the text is highlighted, go to <Edit>, then <Paste Text Only> to replace the highlighted text in Contribute.

- The result is the text that you copied from an outside source is not properly inserted into the page in Contribute, keeping the page structure needed to make sure that the template is not broken.

The above steps covered simple web page editing using Contribute 4. The next section entitled Integrating Images and Tables will cover more advanced steps in web editing.
