Preparing to Register for Summer Term
New and continuing CSUN students follow the steps below to register in Summer Term classes. Other students enroll through Summer Open University.
- Review the academic policies and enrollment requirements for maximum unit load, repeating courses and more. Select the topic from the Table of Contents on those web pages.
- Set a registration appointment online (regular CSUN students only). Obtain your own registration appointment in the SOLAR Student Center starting March 24, 2009. See Set an Online Appointment and the How To Guide Add a Class - Summer Appointment/Enrollment.
- Clear registration holds. Log into myNorthridge at www.csun.edu >Student Center (SOLAR) >Holds (box) >Details.
- Browse the Summer Term Schedule of Classes using SOLAR Class Search. For instructions, see the Class Search How To Guide.
- Register online for classes at or after your appointment time. Log into myNorthridge and click Student Center SOLAR > Academics (section) > Summer Appt/Enrollment. For instructions, see the How To Guide Add a Class.
- Pay your fees. For fees, tuition, payment deadlines and methods, see Money Matters. To learn about grants, loans, scholarships, work study and more, visit Financial Aid and Scholarships.
- Manage your schedule and account.
- Confirm your class schedule in the SOLAR Student Center and print a copy.
- Check SOLAR Class Search regularly for class cancellations or other changes at www.csun.edu >Class Search. Verify that a class missing from your schedule has been cancelled.
- Each time you adjust your schedule, check your account balance in the SOLAR Student Center >Finances >Account Information.
- Watch payment deadlines in the Fee Payment Schedule to avoid disenrollment.
Late Add and Drop
After instruction for a Summer Term session begins and through the second Friday of a session, you may use the SOLAR Student Center to:
- Add classes with permission numbers
- Drop classes without permission, but first review the consequences of reducing the number of units at Information Regarding Change in Program or Schedule
- Change the basis of grading, but first review the restrictions at Credit/No-Credit Grading Policy
For more information and calendars, see Change in Academic Schedule after Start of Classes (Add and Drop).
A $25.00 non-refundable late fee is charged for Late Registration (adding classes when not currently enrolled in units). The charge will display in your Student Center (SOLAR) account.
Important Notes for Troubleshooting
The following registration notes may help you troubleshoot:
- Only regular CSUN students (i.e., new and continuing matriculated students) may obtain registration appointments and register by appointment. Review Who Can Attend Summer Term.
- Summer Open University student registration begins April 14, 2009. Contact The Tseng College for registration guidelines.
- Because Sessions 1 and 2 will have already started, swapping classes from Session 3 to Sessions 1 or 2 after May 25, 2009 is not permitted.
- You may enroll in repeated courses to improve GPA beginning May 26, 2009 and thereafter in all three summer sessions through the end of the Late Registration period for each session. Permission numbers are required to add all classes when instruction for a session begins.
- Use the How to Guides for Students for step-by-step SOLAR Student Center instructions.
