Add a Class

This is a tutorial only. No log in is required.

Introduction

The Add a Class pages are part of the larger Enroll in a Class suite that allows students to add, drop, swap and edit classes in their schedule for a particular term within published deadlines.

The Add a Class pages have three main steps:

  1. Select Classes to Add
  2. Confirm Classes to Add
  3. View Results

Step 1

Use Internet Explorer browser version 6.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox or Safari. Other Web browsers such as AOL, Netscape, or Internet Explorer for Mac may not be fully compatible with the Web portal.

Step 2

Your myNorthridge displays. In the box My Path to Graduation, click Student Center (SOLAR).

Step 3

You are now in the Student Center and SOLAR. Under Academics, click Enroll in a Class.

Step 4

The Payment Notice displays.

To continue, read and accept the Statement of Financial Responsibility.

To go back, select Student Center from the drop down menu and click the Go Screen shot of the drop down menu GO button. button.

Step 5

The Add Classes page displays the first step, Select Term.

Click the desired Term from the list and click Continue.

Step 6

The Select Classes to Add page displays.

The following also display:

  • Enrollment shopping cart
  • Class schedule

To look up classes, click Search. Or enter the five-digit Class Number if known and click Enter.

Step 7

Let’s say you want to look up all sections of Biology 100. Click the Search button.

Step 8

On the Search for Classes page:

  • Enter at least two search criteria.
  • Select a search option from the Course Number drop down menu.
  • Enter an exact or partial course number in the box depending on the option selected.
  • Optional: To include closed classes in the search results, uncheck the Show Open Classes Only box.
  • Use the Additional Search Criteria section to find classes that fulfill GE requirements, are taught online, etc.

Step 9

To select the Course Subject, click the drop down menu, scroll to the desired course (or type B for Biology), and click the Subject.

Click the Search button.

Enter additional search criteria and click the Search button.

Step 11

The Class Search Results page displays classes meeting your criteria.

  • Notice whether the class is open or closed to enrollment.
  • Review the class meeting dates, times and locations.
  • Click the Section link to view enrollment requirements and other details.

Step 12

The Class Detail page displays.

Review course requirements in the Enrollment Information, Notes and Description sections.

If you meet the requirements, click Select Class to proceed. Otherwise, click Return to Results to select another class.

Step 13

On the Enrollment Preferences page:

  1. View class status (open or closed).
  2. Enter the permission number if department or instructor consent is required.
  3. Optional: Change the grading basis. Check with an advisor first or review the grading policy.
  4. Review Enrollment Requirements. Concurrent enrollment in another class may be required.
  5. Review Notes.
  6. Click the Next button.

Step 14

The class has been added to your enrollment shopping cart.

IMPORTANT! You are not yet enrolled in the class.

Search for more classes to add or click Proceed to Step 2 of 3.

Step 15

On the Confirm Classes page:

  • Review the classes in your shopping cart.
  • Click Cancel to exit without adding the class.
  • Click Finish Enrolling to process your request.

Step 16

The View Results page displays errors or confirms success for your enrollment.

If errors are found:

  1. Read the error message and print the page to discuss it with faculty or staff.
  2. Click the Fix Errors button (displays when errors are found) to search for alternate classes.

If successful:

  1. Read any messages and print the page if you want to discuss it with faculty or staff.
  2. If completed, you may Make a Payment or view My Class Schedule.
  3. To add more classes, click the Add tab.

Check your account balance and payment due dates after adjusting your schedule.

Print a copy of your class schedule for your records.
