This is a tutorial only. No log in is required.
Introduction
The SOLAR Class Search tool allows users to browse the CSUN schedule of classes by term at any time.
There are two ways to search for classes:
- Use your CSUN User ID and Password, or
- Log in as a Guest
SOLAR Class Search has three main parts:
- Enter selection criteria on a Search page
- View the Course Results page
- View the Class Details page
Note: Use Internet Explorer browser version 6.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape or Safari. Other Web browsers may not be fully compatible with the Web portal. For list of compatible browsers and versions, see SOLAR Web Browser Certifications.
Step 1
Let’s get started. Go to the CSUN home page at www.csun.edu
If you have a CSUN account, log into the myNorthridge Portal with your CSUN User ID and Password.
If you are a Guest, click the Class Search link from the Quick Links drop down menu, then go to Step 3.


Step 2
CSUN Students:
Your myNorthridge page displays. In the box My Path to Graduation, click Class Search.
CSUN Faculty or Staff:
From your Staff myNorthridge page, click Class Search in the Student Administration box (not pictured).
GUESTS:
Click the Class Search link on the CSUN home page (see Step 1).

Step 3
The SOLAR Class Search page displays. There are four fields:
- *Term
- *Session
- Subject/Department
- Additional Category
*Required field
In addition to the required fields, you MUST also select a Subject or Additional Category or both.

Step 4
From the required *Term drop down menu, select a term.

Step 5
From the required *Session drop down menu, select a session:
- Select Regular or The Tseng College - Credit to view courses for matriculated students.
- Select The Tseng College - Non Credit to view courses available for non-matriculated students.

Step 6
To view courses offered by a department (subject), select a subject from the Subject/Department drop down menu, and click Quick Search.

Step 7
The Search Results page displays. Course List Features:
- Print Icon

- Click to Expand
View class sections. - Click to Close
Collapse class sections. - Click for Details
View class specific information. - Dept. Website
Click to view a department website. - Meeting Patterns
Class section has more than one meeting requirement. - Instructors
Class section has more than one instructor.

Step 8
Click the Expand Icon
to view the Class Section List for a course.
Class Section List Features:
- Detail Icon
- Session
- Section Number
- Class Number
- Seats Available
- Enrollment Status
- Component Type
- Location (Map)
- Days
- Time
- Instructor
- Consent (not shown)
Click the Details icon
to view class section specific information.
To print, click the Print The Page icon ![]()

Step 9
The Class Detail page displays.
Class Detail Features:
- Class Information
- Meeting Information
- Enrollment Information
- Subject and Class Notes
- Course Information
To start a new search, click the Return button to go back to the previous page, and click the Reset button.

Step 10
Additional Category
To view a specific type of course offered by—
ALL departments - Leave the Subject blank, and select an option from the Additional Category drop down menu. Click Quick Search.
OR
ONE department - Select both a Subject and an Additional Category, and then click Quick Search.

Step 11
ADDITIONAL CATEGORY EXAMPLES
General Education (first image)—To view ALL GE Plans, leave the Subject field blank, select a GE Plan from the Additional Category menu, and then select a GE requirement from the GE Group menu.
OR
Online Courses (second image)—To view Online courses for ONE department, select a subject and select the Additional Category Online Courses.
Click Quick Search.
