Communications
E-mail is the official communication of the California State University, Northridge. It is your responsibility as a student to activate and monitor your university e-mail account or miss important information about enrollment status, financial aid, fees, registration, and more. If you prefer an alternate e-mail address, you can have your CSUN e-mail forwarded to it.
Steps to Enrollment
Review the Checklist for first-time transfer students.
Advisement. Academic advisement is recommended as part of the registration process. Various majors require advisement before registration and this requirement will appear on the Registration Access Mailer. To determine who to contact regarding advisement, visit Academic Advisement.
Register for Classes. The myNorthridge Portal Login on the CSUN home page at www.csun.edu is your gateway to SOLAR self service. Use the Student Center (SOLAR) to enroll in courses, pay fees and charges, check financial aid status, view class schedule and grades, and print an unofficial transcript, review your Degree Progress Report (DPR)--and more.
Apply for Financial Aid. To be considered for financial aid, complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible. We urge you to complete the FAFSA online and make sure to enter CSUN's Federal School Code of 001153.
Apply for Housing. Students who choose to live on campus at Cal State Northridge will find modern, spacious apartment-style living.
Attend New Student Orientation. CSUN is committed to your academic success. Therefore, you are encouraged to attend the New Student Freshman Orientation to help you learn about the steps to success at CSUN and the campus resources and services.
Lower Division Transfer Students. A transfer student with less than 60 units should plan to take the English Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE) as soon as you have completed 60 units.
Upper Division Transfer Students. A transfer student with more than 60 units, needs to take the English Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE) as soon as possible.
Meet Immunization Requirements. If you were born on or after January 1, 1957, you must present proof of immunity against measles and rubella during your first semester at CSUN.
Transcripts Required. If you are currently enrolled in classes at a community college or another university, you will need to have your current college send a final official transcript. Your final official transcript will be used to verify that all coursework you indicated as work in progress has been completed.
