How Do I Apply for Graduation?
Your application for the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma initiates the graduation process, participation in Commencement, and receipt of your diploma.
You may apply for graduation once you have completed 90 units (including work-in-progress) or approximately one year prior to your planned graduation date. At least one semester of work must be completed in residence at Cal State Northridge before our office can complete a graduation evaluation.
Follow these steps to get started:
STEP 1: Complete the Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma Application form and print the document. Consult your academic advisor as needed.
STEP 2: Access My Academic Planner (MAP) through myNorthridge and the SOLAR Student Center. Use MAP to plan your remaining coursework in future terms. If you need help, view the My Academic Planner how to guide.
STEP 3: Review your MAP and planned coursework with your department academic advisor. Be sure to secure his/her signature for the major, second major, and/or minor on your Application for Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma.
STEP 4: Submit the completed Application for Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma and a copy of your MAP to Admissions and Records at the Student Services Center in Bayramian Hall during one of the following application filing periods:
- For Fall 2008 graduation, apply between November 30, 2007 and March 7, 2008.
Thereafter a $10.00 late fee will be assessed. - For Spring 2009 or Summer 2009 graduation, apply between April 4, 2008 and July 11, 2008. Thereafter a $10.00 late fee will be assessed.
- For Fall 2009 graduation, apply between December 5, 2008 and March 6, 2009.
Thereafter a $10.00 late fee will be assessed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Applying after the filing period deadline may delay receipt of your graduation evaluation and your grad senior status priority registration appointment time. Commencement participation could be affected.
STEP 5: Meet all requirements and submit documents for graduation evaluation by the last day to confirm awarding of the degree. Reminder: The Upper Division Writing Proficiency Examination requirement must be met before your graduation date. For testing dates and registration information, see the UDWPE website.
I Want to Declare a Second Major and/or Minor
If you declare a second major and/or minor, the Application for Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma form must bear each faculty advisor’s signature.
